TRADE MARKS : DEADLINE FOR FILING SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS (POWER OF ATTORNEY)

We have received notice from Mozambique that there is now strict enforcement of Article 10 of the Industrial Property Code by the Industrial Property Institute of Mozambique.

Article 10 requires applicants for trade mark registrations to ensure that:

The applications are correctly addressed
The applications are duly signed
The correct amount of fees is paid
The documents referred to in the application are attached thereto. This includes a signed and notarized Power of Attorney.
Any applicant who does not comply with the above requirements will be sent notice by the IPI to remedy the defect within 15 days from date of notice. Failure to remedy the defect will result in the applicationbeing abandoned.

This provision also applies to applications lodged without a NOTARISED POWER OF ATTORNEY. If you have not yet sent us a notarized Power of Attorney for your trade mark application in Mozambique, please do so by 10 April 2013.

THE DEADLINE IN WHICH TO SUBMIT MISSING DOCUMENTS TO THE IPI IS 15 APRIL 2013.
