Karen specialises in trade mark litigation, including infringement and unlawful competition matters, opposition and cancellation proceedings, extending throughout Africa. She has been in practice for more than 10 years and has advised clients in a variety of industries including telecommunications, retail, food and beverage, banking and finance, as well as the pharmaceutical industry, on how to protect and enforce their various intellectual property (IP) rights and ensure the related commercial and regulatory aspects are sound.
Karen also has experience with IP valuations, R & D tax incentive advice, and IP due diligences where transactional work is involved. She also advises clients in the food and beverage industry on food labelling to ensure compliancy with local laws and regulations. Karen was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2011 and was registered as a legal practitioner of Zimbabwe in 2017.
Karen is on the International Trade Mark Association (INTA) – Young Practitioners’ Committee, is a member of the Corporate Counsel Association of South Africa (CCASA), a Fellow of the Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL) and is a member of the SAIIPL Copyright Committee.
