Jaco holds a degree in Medical Sciences as well as an LLB degree from the University of Pretoria. He is a qualified Patent Attorney at KISCH IP.
Jaco is the driving force behind KISCH IP's medical technology specialist field, and he also advises clients in high profile intellectual property (IP) transfers and licencing negotiations and agreements. He has 12 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting local and foreign patent applications in the field of life sciences, and more particularly in the field of medical technology.
He also has a keen interest in the field of registered designs, including the registration and prosecution thereof. Over and above patent and design registration and prosecution, he specialises in litigation in the fields of patents, registered designs, copyright and plant breeders' rights, as well as providing opinions on validity and infringement in these fields.
He is a member of the Legal Practice Council (LPC) and the Law Society of South Africa. He is also a fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL) and is the convenor of the Patent and Design subcommittee of SAIIPL. He is also a member of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) and also represents the firms Patent Department at the annual International Trade Mark Association (INTA) conference.
