Convention priority may be claimed through the Paris Convention.
A design registration may be obtained for any design or model which gives an article a novel aspect or original shape.
Classification is done according to the Locarno International Classification of Designs.
Absolute novelty.
A 12-month grace period applies where the design was disclosed by the inventor or a third party.
Only formal examination is conducted.
A registered design is effective for 5 years from the filing date, which is renewable for 2 further terms of 5 years each, for a maximum duration of 15 years.
If a design fails to satisfy the local demand, the government may issue compulsory licenses.
